Protection of Indonesian Citizens
The global COVID-19 pandemic has put many Indonesians in a difficult condition, both in Indonesia and abroad. This is where the State is needed to provide protection for millions of Indonesians in various parts of the world.

Medical personnel sprayed disinfectant on an Indonesian national at Hang Nadim International Airport in Batam, Riau Islands. In total, 238 Indonesian nationals were successfully evacuated from Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak, to be further observed in the Natuna Islands. [February 2020]

The Indonesian Minister for Foreign Affairs meets with 14 Indonesian crew members who worked on Chinese fishing boats. The crew members revealed that they had problems with their salaries that had not been paid or did not match the value of the work contract, as well as inhuman working hours that they had endured. [May 2020]
The Indonesian Consul General in Dubai sends off 334 Indonesian crew members home. The Indonesian Consulate General in Dubai coordinated with the Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the UAE government to facilitate the repatriation of Indonesian crew members who worked on the MSC Bellissima and MSC Lirica Ships, which were docked in Dubai after the cessation of shipping due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Indonesian Embassy in Seoul distributes logistic assistance to Indonesian Migrant Workers in Uljin, South Korea, where 15 Indonesian migrant workers that work in fisheries sector were located. This city became the central point for Indonesian nationals in the northern-most Gyeongsanbukdo province. [March 2020]
The Indonesian Consulate General in Los Angeles facilitates the repatriation of 22 Indonesian crew members who worked on the Seven Seas Navigator Ship. As of April 12, a total of 617 Indonesian crew members from 5 cruise ships were repatriated to Indonesia by the Indonesian Consulate General in Los Angeles, in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC and the Indonesian Consulate in Houston. The Indonesian Minister for Foreign Affairs hands over the Indonesian ship crews and other Indonesian Nationals to their respective family. Releasing the ship crews held hostages and repatriating them during the COVID-19 pandemic were not easy. However, the tasks were accomplished thanks to the intensive cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and several parties. [July 2020]
A total of 313 Indonesian nationals in Bangladesh, including 162 members of the Jamaah Tabligh, are successfully repatriated to Indonesia through an independent repatriation program facilitated by the Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka. The Indonesian nationals have had their return from Bangladesh delayed for almost 3 months. [May 2020]

A joint team consisting of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Military, the Indonesian Ministry of Health, and the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo carry out the repatriation of 69 Indonesian crew members of the Diamond Princess Ship. This repatriation was fully supported by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Japanese Health personnel. [March 2020]
Happy. That is what Indonesian students in Samara, Russia felt when they received the visit of the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow. Apart from ensuring the health of the students during the pandemic, the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow also provided logistic assistance packages for them. [September 2020]
Since the end of March 2020, after Kuwait imposed a lockdown and curfew, the Indonesian Embassy in Kuwait has been providing food package assistance for Indonesian nationals. As of November 2020, the Indonesian Embassy in Kuwait and Indonesian Diaspora volunteers have distributed more than 1,400 packages from the Indonesian Embassy in Kuwait and thousands of other packages from fellow Indonesian nationals and the Kuwaiti charity movement. These are the efforts of Indonesian government’s to protect Indonesian citizens who were abroad in 2020.
